How to update PostgreSQL 14
Minor releases (e.g. 14.x to 14.24) never need a dump or pg_upgrade: install the packages and restart. A new major version does.
Ubuntu / Debian (PGDG repository)
sudo apt update
sudo apt install --only-upgrade postgresql-14
sudo systemctl restart postgresql New major version on Ubuntu / Debian
sudo apt install postgresql-14
pg_lsclusters Then run sudo pg_upgradecluster <old-version> main. It migrates the old cluster onto version 14.
Docker
docker pull postgres:14 Official upgrade guide ↗ Back up first, and test on a non-production machine when you move to a new branch.
